The Muppets are ending their relationship with fast food restaurant chain Chick-Fil-A in a show of support for gay marriage, the creators of the puppet troupe said on Monday.
“The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-Fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors,” the company said in a statement posted on their official Facebook page.
The Henson company, named after the creator of lovable characters like Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, supplied their Creature Shop Muppet toys to Chick-Fil-A for children’s meal packages but decided to sever ties after recent statements by the fast-food chain’s Chief Executive Dan Cathy.
Cathy told the Baptist Press in a recent interview the company supported the “traditional family,” and “the biblical definition of the family unit.”
The Henson company, whose Muppet characters are hugely popular, said its Chief Executive Lisa Henson is a “strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-Fil-A to GLAAD,” the company said in their statement.
GLAAD is the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.
And…. Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum love that Chick-Fil-A is owned by bigots!
Former GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum took to social media on Wednesday to announce his support for fast food chain Chick-fil-A in the wake of backlash prompted by its CEO’s recent comments against gay marriage.
In a series of tweets, Santorum touted the “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” initiative launched by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) earlier this week.
I may have to go to chick-fil-A with an atheist t-shirt. Maybe, I can get a really cool rainbow shirt.

Ohhhh… sounds good.
I am surprised this is garnering so much attention. Chic-fil-a originally started as a way to kill chickens on the family farm that displayed same sex tendencies. Unfortunately the founders were not good at telling the boy chickens from the girl chickens so they ended up killing LOTS of chickens.
No body knew what to do with the ever growing pile of dead homo-chickens until Mr. Cathy came up with a ground breaking idea. He would use them to feed his bible study group that met at his house on Thursdays to discuss ways to protect marriage and traditional family values. (this was in 1882, Mr. Cathy was truly a pioneer and visionary.)
Obviously the irony of feeding homo-chickens to his gay marriage group was lost on these people but what stood out was his knack for making a delicious chicken sandwich. Suddenly people started signing up for bible study at his house 7 days a week (back then he would make you a homo-chicken sandwich on a Sunday.)
It wasn’t long before he opened his first store, demand got so high they started having to use heterosexual chickens, some people say the taste isn’t the same and some people say you really can tell. Either way an empire was born. And considering the roots their stance against gay marriage should not come as a surprise to anyone.
I was in Arkansas for 2 years – I could almost see that as true.
