Home School And Evolution
tip to Janet.
I know it’s not a surprise but home school text book do not promote real science. There are more home school students every year. I’m sure there are many great parents that to a good job teaching their kids at home. However, many parents are doing a disservice to their children. Here is what one book company had to say about their science text….
“Those who do not believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God will find many points in this book puzzling,” says the introduction to “Biology: Third Edition” from Bob Jones University Press. “This book was not written for them.”
Whoa…. That’s kinda…. ok really scary. So about 80% of the world can’t learn real science? I loved the response from Jerry Coyne….
I feel fairly strongly about this. These books are promulgating lies to kids
He was too kind. The only chance these kids have is moving out or sneaking onto the internet while their parents are at church.

Home schooling should require the same testing as regular schools to continue. There needs to be an agreed upon level for each grade, including science standards. I’ve said it before and will be sure to repeat it many times, children are not property, they are future adults and as such have the right to all available opportunities that can be provided no matter what their parents choose to believe. It is not anti-religious to teach children fact based subjects – we don’t hear an out cry over algebra – if it conflicts with a belief system the parents job is to explain it, not try to avoid it, preventing children from any chance to have a future in any of the many fields of science, including those that work with technology.
That said, I don’t think I could home school, two weeks for a tonsillectomy and adenoid surgery proved a bit much for me.
