Here is the video of the debate!

Watch this part and then the next 12 on You Tube.

  1. Paul Nolan says:

After having watched 5 1/2 segments of the debate (I just couldn’t go any further), I must say this: Mr. Loftus is a horrible debater. Now I know that he was losing his voice, and I can make exception for that. But even taking this into account, he was just terrible. Add into the mix that Mr. D’Souza is a very polished and practiced debater (as is quite obvious), and you have an event that must have been painful for even the Christians to watch.

If Mr. Loftus has not finally admitted that he lost this debate (and I mean “big time”), then he has proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that it was not Mr. D’Souza who was suffering from delusions, but it was (and is) Mr. Loftus.

  2. Glock21 says:

He has a post up on that very subject here: http://debunkingchristianity.blogspot.com/2010/02/what-i-learned-from-debating-dinesh.html

There’s also at least a dozen debate related post-debate threads on his site for other criticism and responses.

  3. Paul Nolan says:

@Glock21: Than you for making me aware of Mr. Loftus’ blog of the 25th.

Frankly, I found his blog entry to be rather whiny and filled with excuses. Had Mr. Loftus simply been an adult and said, “I did badly at the debate,” I could respect him. An adult faces up to the truth without making excuses. That is not what he did.

He is also still under the delusion that he didn’t do badly. “I did okay, but not well.” he says in his blog. He adamantly refuses to admit to the truth that everyone else who has seen this debate knows (and that includes believers and non-believers). The truth is that he was soundly trounced by a far better debater.

There is nothing shameful in admitting that you screwed up. However, in the act of trying to salvage his pride he has lost something far more valuable…his integrity.

  4. Glock21 says:

Paul… that was probably one of his more tempered post-debate responses, so you can only imagine my frustration when he was labeling most of the local folks who were disappointed (including his sponsor) as immature, irrational, and irrelevant yahoos. I stopped commenting on the debate on his blog after he accused me of not letting it go even though it was a response to yet another dig at his critics. That and demands I identify myself so I could “face repercussions” for my comments along with a friend of mine (also deemed an irrational “idiot”).

Needless to say, he didn’t make a very good first impression with me either. I’ll be looking forward to his upcoming debate with interest to see if he’ll continue to be an anchor around the neck of the atheist movement or if he’s actually capable of growing from the experience. The last thing we need is someone denying reality while attempting to sell the idea that atheists have a better grip on reality than theists. If he can’t it will just makes the whole movement for acceptance look bad.
