One Million Views

Well, today it happened. The blog has a total of 1 Million views. It happened around 2:00PM today. I was expecting this to take several more weeks but, my old post about Fox News not being allowed to broadcast in Canada has gone crazy. Last night it was posted on reddit – atheism and went to number one. I think it went as high as number 10 for reddit – all. Today it is spreading via Facebook, Twitter and Tumbler. There is something about this story that people seem to like.
The first post for Skeptic Money was December 16th, 2009. A little over 2 and a half years ago. I still remember the first time I had 100 views within 24 hours. Now an average day is 2-3,000 views and with this fox thingy there are over 50,000 views just today! I expect things will calm down in a day or two.
One of the problems with higher volume is higher server costs. The bigger the blog gets – the more it costs. I am now considering my options. In the next few months, I will either have to put up some ads or join with a group of bloggers. Maybe I can make $5 – $10 per month
.
It also appears that I am drawing some attention. The blog faced it’s first DOS attack overnight. It took me down for a little but we got back on line quickly. The company hosting my blog has a lot of servers and they made some adjustments and the attackers were rebuffed.
I also want to thank all of the readers, commenters and contributors that have helped along the way. Please take this opportunity to use this as an open post. Please add a comment below. You can just say hello – if you wish.
Thanks you!

Fox News is not banned from Canada. It is available nationwide on cable. That entire post is false. I live in Toronto and can watch Fox News whenever I want. Which, admittedly, is very rarely.
The post is about broadcast news. That is different than cable. I have talked to other Canadians that have confirmed Fox does not have any broadcast news in Canada. If you have information to the contrary please provide it. Thank you for visiting skeptic money.
Canada’s Broadcasting Act applies equally to over-the-air broadcasting and cable.
http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/B-9.01/page-1.html#h-3
““Broadcasting” means any transmission of programs, whether or not encrypted, by radio waves or other means of telecommunication for reception by the public by means of broadcasting receiving apparatus”
…and…
“For the purposes of this Act, “other means of telecommunication” means any wire, cable, radio, optical or other electromagnetic system, or any similar technical system.”
Fox News has had a broadcasting license in Canada since 2004. Like most channels, they’re only available by cable or satellite, but that’s also the case with CNN, BBC News, MSNBC, etc etc.
