Sandy Hook Shooting – Thoughts From The Skeptical Teacher

My very good friend “The Skeptical Teacher” works in a high school and had some great thoughts about the tragic shooting in Newton, Ct.

Understandably, people all over the nation are numb and puzzled about how something like this could happen.  I know that at the high school where I teach, it has certainly been a topic of much debate and conversation.  One of the most asked questions is “Are our schools safe?”….

You will have to visit his blog to get his answer.

He does point out some of the stupid flowing forth from the mouths or religious idiots. (Is that redundant?)  So which one of the three listed below, do you think is the winner?

First up….

Mike Huckabee – Two time Presidential hopeful, former Governor of a state with one of the worst performing school systems (Arkansas), preacher and FOX news “expert” had this to say….

We ask  why there’s violence in our schools, but we have systematically removed God from  our schools. Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of  carnage?

I’ve said it before….If gOd must be invited in to save 26 people than he (or she) must be one capricious son-of-a-bitch.  If I had that power, I would just do it!  You would not have to give me money or pray in just the right way.

Our second contender….

William Murray – Son Madalyn Murray O’hair and devout theist….

…the authority of God has  been replaced with the authority of the iron fist of government. Morals? Without  the authority of God, there are no morals, and none are taught in the public  schools today. The ethics that are taught are situational, perhaps the same  situational ethics that led to the logic that caused the tragic shootings in  Newtown.

It appears that without praying to god or carrying around 10 pound stone tablets I cannot know that it is bad to shoot an 8-year-old in the face.

Our third contender and perennial favorite….

Westboro baptist church….

…announced that it will picket a vigil for the victims of Friday’s Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the second-deadliest school shooting in American history.

and….

“…to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment.”

Please cast your votes below!  Who will be our winner?

I will leave you with one last comment from The Skeptical Teacher….

…what these preachers, prophets, and fundamentalist believers really fear is exactly what’s happening to them: they are slipping into irrelevance.  Let them, I say, because civilized society has no need for their sociopathic mythologies.

  1. Ben says:

So how is it that shootings have occurred in churches, religious schools and if no sin is greater than another; why all the child molesting and rape in churches? Has God been removed from there as well.

  2. Sandra H Howerton says:

It is just impossible for me to choose. They are all equally ignorant and illogical.

  3. Sandra H Howerton says:

Also, I’d like to know how Mike Huckabee explains the fact that slavery and segregation were legal while much of that praying was going on in schools.

  4. San says:

Tabatha Vargo and her garbage amateur poem take the cake as she pushes the John Rennard “this is awesome since those kids are now in the afterlife” twistedness and lunacy that enter Andrea Yates territory. The people who are like that are sick, evil or mentally ill.

  5. George Sterpka says:

One wonders how one removes an omnipotent being, that is also supposed to be omnipresent, from anything or anywhere? It would seem logical that this god was present and let this happen. Of course that is nonsense.
What isn’t nonsense is the state of our Mental Health Care system.
That needs to be looked at seriously.
If the WBBC actually believes their god is “executing his judgment” they are worshiping a demon and not any god I would want to associate myself with or defend.
