Simon Singh – UK Libel Update

Simon Singh has announced that he will not longer be able to write for the Guardian.  If you have not heard he has been sued by the British Chiropractic Association, for daring to say that some Chiropractic treatments are bogus.  Here is some of what Mr. Singh has to say…

I reckon I have spent 44 solid weeks on the libel action spread across two years.   I am in the very fortunate position of having no employees, being a freelancer, having financial resources and having a very supportive wife. In any other circumstance, I cannot imagine fighting a libel action because of the enormous sacrifices involved.

Here is an interview that Rebecca Watson did of Richard Wiseman just before the “Big Libel Gig”….

The Big Libel Gig was held on March 14, 2010 in the UK.  Details here.

I will close with one more quote from Simon Singh….

“Peter Wilmshurst, Ben Goldacre and I will talk about being sued for libel. Peter is being sued for raising concerns about a heart device. He faces bankruptcy by coming up against our draconian libel laws. We are all put at risk if doctors and scientists are scared to speak out because of English libel laws.”
